THE First Annual CNMI Safety Conference is scheduled for Aug. 21-22 at the Crowne Plaza Resort, according to Ben Babauta, marketing and outreach coordinator of the Northern Marianas Technical Institute.

“One of NMTech’s goals is to educate the CNMI for a safer and more comfortable workplace,” Babauta said. “We want [conference] participants to take advantage of the industry professionals that are presenting to absorb quality information and ask questions that you might have to help make your workplace free from potential hazards.”
Babauta said the conference will be held in partnership with the Guam Contractors Association, CNMI OSHA, and University of California OSHA Training Institute Education Center.
At the conference, industry professionals will host breakout sessions covering topics, such as trenching and excavating, OSHA record keeping, machine guarding, confined spaces, construction safety, and general industry safety, Babauta said.
“The conference is catered to anyone wanting and willing to learn. All the topics this year could be practiced in multiple industries and not just construction,” Babauta told Variety.
He said vendors will be on site at the Crowne Plaza to display safety products and services.
The deadline to register for the conference is Aug. 18. Registration is $100 and comes with lunch. Participants can register and pay at the NMTech campus in Lower Base.
Questions can be forwarded to Babauta at benjamin.babauta@nmtechcnmi.org or (670) 323-6602; emails may also be sent to cnmiosha@dol.gov.mp/.
