SAIPAN, CNMI — The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) Department of Labor, Division of Enforcement and Compliance, has issued a public notice reminding all operating businesses and employers that local labor laws remain in full effect and will continue to be strictly enforced throughout the ongoing Typhoon Sinlaku recovery efforts.
While the Department acknowledges the severe economic and operational hardships currently facing the business community, officials emphasize that compliance with employment regulations is non-negotiable during this critical recovery period.
Key directives outlined by the Division of Enforcement and Compliance include:
Lawful Compensation: Employers are strictly required to pay all workers in accordance with applicable labor laws and existing employment agreements.
Authorized Employment: Businesses are strongly advised against taking advantage of the post-typhoon climate by employing unauthorized or illegal workers.
To ensure fair and lawful employment practices are maintained across the Commonwealth, the Division of Enforcement and Compliance will actively continue to conduct workplace inspections, respond to formal complaints, and monitor employer compliance.
“Our goal is to work cooperatively with the business community while ensuring that fair and lawful employment practices are maintained,” stated Jose P. Kiyoshi, Director of the Division of Enforcement and Compliance. “We respectfully ask for the immediate cooperation and compliance of all employers during these challenging times as we work together to support our community’s recovery and stability.”
Employers who have questions or require compliance assistance are urged to contact the CNMI Department of Labor office directly at 670-322-4365 or 670-322-9942.
