SUBJECT: Administrative Leave for April 22-29, 2026
Typhoon Sinlaku has devastated our islands in the last week, damaging homes, uprooting trees and power poles, and leaving many residents without power or water.
Sustained winds of 150 mph, rainfall exceeding 20 inches in some areas, and a slow-moving storm with the eyewall hovering over the islands for many hours have wreaked catastrophic destruction.
Our first responders are working hard with federal partners to rebuild critical infrastructure and restore power and water.
In the meantime, public sector employees, like many in our community, need time to focus first and foremost on restoring and stabilizing their own homes with their families.
I am therefore authorizing Administrative Leave from Wednesday, April 22, 2026, through
Wednesday April 29, 2026, for non-essential employees of the Commonwealth Government’ s
Executive Branch except as needed for direct disaster recovery tasks.
